Promoting safeguarding in the curriculum
Our curriculum supports safeguarding through our Wellbeing curriculum and awareness days. Our curriculum enables our children to have the confidence and knowledge around safeguarding issues and the skills to know how to keep themselves safe. Through our curriculum, we provide them with the vocabulary and tools to seek help if they need to do so.
Our Wellbeing curriculum focuses on British Values and Citizenship and the twelve themes from the RSHE curriculum:
- Being safe
- Basic first aid
- Health and prevention
- Drugs, alcohol, and tobacco
- Mental well-being
- Changing adolescent body
- Relationships and Sex Education
- Families and people who care for me
- Caring friendships
- Respectful relationships
- Online relationships
- Internet safety & harms
Our Wellbeing curriculum has been mapped out using our subject breadth map and progression ladders across year groups to ensure it is taught at an appropriate age. It is taught weekly by highly trained class teachers.
We also promote safeguarding through awareness days and weeks such as:
- Anti-bullying week
- Mental Health week
- Safer internet day
- Road safety week
- Life Education Bus
- Careers Day
- Y5 visit to the skills centre
