Our Kingsholm Nursery
Our Nursery provision is designed to help build and support the development of strong foundations for all children, ensuring they can succeed on their own unique learning journey.
We have chosen to invest in a teacher-led model with high-quality training, modelling and support for other staff working within the setting. We believe that this early investment in providing the most qualified, experienced and inclusive staff, leads to better outcomes for children in their Early Years and beyond.
Our aims:
- Help children thrive and make progress in a nurturing and accepting environment.
- Provide a high-quality curriculum that enables children to reach their expected milestones.
- Support children’s physical, personal, social and emotional development and their communication and language skills, ensuring these are secure before children move to the next stage of their education. If they are not secure, children will be supported and guided with additional early interventions and external help.
- Provide high quality staff interactions and environments supporting the development needs of all children.
- Ensure children's barriers are identified and addressed - speech and language intervention and focus, emotion coaching and the development of lifelong learning skills including empathy, resilience, and motivation.
- Work with parents to develop their understanding and confidence in supporting their own child's journey. For example, through effective communication and workshop provision to support and develop parents' understanding of key areas in child development.
- Develop strong relationships with parents. Understanding a child’s family’s experiences is crucial to providing the right support for the child and their family.
- Through training, enabling staff to be skilled and confident in supporting early childhood development.
Why are our aims important?
- To address any barriers to the children successfully reaching their personal milestones.
- To ensure that the right support is provided at the earliest possible opportunity. This may be in relation to supporting children and families with specific needs, as well as giving support with the general ups and downs in life that can happen to all families.
- Giving advice for parents about their child's development will help them support younger children - allowing even earlier intervention to be achieved. For families with younger siblings, this also builds relationships for when these children come to Nursery.
What is the impact of the Nursery?
- Improved outcomes for children and families.
- Support for the wider community and the impact of future positive change.
- Children are more confident, ready to access the next phase of their development and meet expected standards, within their personal journeys.
- Support from professionals (For example Health Visitors, the Early Years Service) in place as early as possible when needs are identified, and in place (If needed) when children move to the next stage of their development.
- Early identification of need helps children to be on the Graduated Pathway when starting Reception - ensuring they have the support and funding to thrive.
- Strong relationships established with the school as the children transition to Reception. The Nursery children are already familiar with the school, daily routines, staff and the environments. As a school-based Nursery, children move up to Reception feeling secure within their relationships. Children have already developed strong friendships during their pre-school year and carry these friendships with them. Teachers will spend time in the Nursery in the summer term building relationships with children, so that they become familiar adults. This also helps children to transition into school life smoothly.
- As part of our transition, children are supported to access different areas of the school to increase familiarity. During their pre-school year we use the school halls for P.E. Parents are invited into school to enjoy Art Galleries and sing a-longs. Families feel connected to the school from the beginning of their child’s journey, not just at the start of Reception.
