Hand washing & hygiene

How often will the children be asked to wash their hands and what will be the procedures? 

 

In all year groups, the children will be encouraged to wash their hands at regular intervals including when they arrive at school, after using the toilet, coming in from outside, before eating, and before they leave the classroom at the end of the day. They will use liquid soap which the school will provide. 

 

Can children bring in their own hand sanitiser?

 

Children are not required to bring hand santiser in, there will be allocated times for them to wash their hands thoroughly and provision made for this in school.

 

Can children wear a mask to school?

Yes, they can but they must bring a sealed plastic bag to store the mask in when not being used.

 

Will staff be wearing face masks?

 

Wearing a face covering or face mask in schools or other education settings for staff or pupils is not recommended by Public Health England.  

 

Will Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) be used within the school?

 

The majority of staff within the school will not require PPE. The staff will use PPE if a pupil becomes unwell with symptoms of coronavirus when they are at school and need direct personal care until they can return home.

 

Cleaning 

 

What will be cleaned, by who and how often?

 

Throughout the day the classroom surfaces, door handles and other hard surfaces will be regularly cleaned with sanitising spray. At the end of the day, the classrooms will be more thoroughly cleaned. 

 

What if I choose not to send my child to school?

 

The Secretary of State for Education has made it clear to schools that the usual rules on school attendance will apply, including: 

 

• parents’ duty to ensure that their child attends school, where the child is a registered pupil at school and they are of compulsory school age; • schools’ responsibilities to record attendance and follow up absence; and 

• the option to issue sanctions, including fixed penalty notices, in line with local authorities’ codes of conduct.
