Kingsholm Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is a play based curriculum and follows the children's needs and interests. This curriculum continues into the Reception Year.
Please see the link to the Early Years Curriculum in useful links for more information.
We encourage the children to free flow between the outdoor area and their base room. There are a range of activities available in both of these areas which are accessible for the children. The areas include:
- Building / construction areas – This includes the small world toys (such as farm, jungle animals, train track and cars) as well as building bricks and blocks.
- Art and craft area – This includes paints, papers, pens and junk modelling items allowing the children to express their creative side.
- Role play / home area - The children can ‘play act’, dress up and recreate familiar scenes, such as feeding a baby, washing the car etc.
- Book / quiet area – The children have the opportunity for a quiet time activity – either sharing stories and rhymes with friends or completing jigsaw puzzles.
There is a healthy rolling snack available for all of the children to help themselves to during the morning and afternoon session. Snack is charged at £5 for children attending 6 or more sessions and £3 for children attending 5 or less sessions per term.
The building and Outside Area
We offer a secure system to the Nursery; all of our rooms are brightly lit and spacious. We have a large outside area, where there is a playhouse, muddy/wooded/willow space, room for balls/bikes, a construction and a growing area. The children have access to both the indoor and outdoor area during our continuous provision as part of our free flow approach. The children are also able to use our school areas, including; our wildlife, vegetable and spiritual gardens, the library, the school hall (for PE/Movement sessions), the Reception classrooms during the Summer term of Pre-School, as well as our multi use games area (MUGA).
